Biography
Roger Weber is a cities leader, urban designer, and practice builder who has spent his career shaping transformational districts, large-scale development strategies, and civic frameworks across the United States and internationally. Most recently he led Stantec's National Urban Places sector, a 100+ person interdisciplinary practice spanning urban planning, urban design, transportation, landscape architecture, and economics, with an $80M+ annual portfolio. Before that he founded and built SOM's Washington, DC City Design practice, growing it into a self-sustaining studio with clients and projects across the globe. Earlier in his career he worked at OMA under Rem Koolhaas and at DPZ under Andres Duany, and served as a Senior Master Planner for the US State Department, shaping the diplomatic footprint across 168 countries. His project work spans five continents and includes district masterplans, comprehensive plans, new city strategies, transit-oriented development, campus and institutional plans, and civic frameworks across 25 of the US's largest cities, four national capitals, four of the country's largest tech companies, leading universities, and some of the largest development projects ever undertaken. Roger is the founder of New Cities Atlas, a global research platform tracking large-scale new city development across Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Europe, which grew out of an Eisenhower Fellowship conducting field research across 21 Chinese new cities. He holds advanced degrees from Harvard GSD, the University of Pennsylvania, and Georgetown University's business school, and is an AICP-certified planner. He also co-owns professional sports franchises across six leagues and has applied urban development expertise to sports ownership, stadium district strategy, and franchise repositioning as long-term civic assets.
