Biography
Dr. Patrick Lamson-Hall is an urban planner and researcher leading the Urban Expansion and the Periphery program at the Africa Urban Lab (African School of Economics, Zanzibar). He also supports the Cities Alliance/UNOPS as an urban planning and migration specialist, assisting municipalities in welcoming migrants and refugees through proactive physical planning. His public sector work helps cities across Africa prepare for inclusive, sustainable, and orderly urban growth. He is an affiliated scholar at the NYU Marron Institute of Urban Management and, as co-author of the Atlas of Urban Expansion and a leader in producing the recent OECD Africa’s Urbanization Dynamics report, a globally recognized expert on urban growth and density. The pioneering work of his private sector firm, Fitted Projects, integrates his applied planning and research experience to explore the frontiers of market-focused urbanism in new cities and urban extensions. He holds a Master’s Degree in Urban Planning and a PhD in Public Administration from the NYU Wagner School of Public Service, and he lives in Paris, France, with his wife and two children.
